It is no longer news that popular rapper and musician, Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiyu Fasasi aka Sound Sultan hS passed on at the age of 44.
A few weeks ago, news had filtered in that he had been battling throat cancer.
For a man who gave the world iconic sounds such as ‘Jagbangantis, Bush Meat, Area(Ajo o dabi ile), 2010 among others, his death, no doubt came as a rude shock.
Born on November 27th, 1976, Sound Sultan would have turned 45 later this year. Not many know that this father of three children – Zara, Mayowa and Bidemi was married to a lady from the South-Eastern Region of the country. Although, she now goes by the name Farida, owing to her now deceased husband’s religious beliefs, she was christened Chichi Morah and they got married in 2009 and led quite a private life.
Reaacting to his death on his officialinstragram handle, Sound Sultan’s elder brother, Dare Fasasi, Baba Dee @babadeeninja wrote :”Lanre, I never knew a day like this would come.. my beloved brother and partner. Till we meet to part no more.”
Others who have paid tribute include Nollywood Veteran Actor, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) who wrote on Instagram “Did you know when you wished me Happy birthday three days earlier that you won’t have strength to do it a day later. Love you Men”
Others who have also commiserate with the family and shared their fondest memories of him include I’ll liss, Reminsce, 2face, Small Doctor who said he spoke to him recently and wished “the call never ended”, Yaw, Kate Henshaw, Bisola Aiyeola among others, with more tributes coming in as at press time.
Apart from his beloved wife and three kids, Sound Sultan was also survived by five siblings- Toyin Fasasi, Dare Fasasi, Oyinda Alaafia, Kayode Fasasi and Bukayo Oluwafemi..
