Budget historian and lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Tunji Ogunyemi, refrained from commenting on what transpired between OAU lecturer, Prof. Richard Akindele and university student, Miss Monica Osagie which earned the former a dismissal from the prestigious institution.

He made this known on Sunrise Daily programme on Channels television when the question was put to him during the budget signing discussion,as monitored by Photostory.

However, he said, “I feel pained when I heard about the story

“The University senate committee has pronounced on it, I would not want to comment further on the issue because it is not my position to do that.

“The university only found him culpable and It is within Prof. Akindele’s purview to appeal the verdict.

“I know him as a senior colleague, a professor of Accounting,” Ogunyemi said.

It would be recalled that the Senate Council, at its meeting yesterday Wednesday, 20th of June, 2018, having considered the recommendation of Senate, as well as the report of the Joint Committee of Council and Senate, decided that Professor Richard Akindele should be dismissed from the services of the University for gross misconduct.

The University also took further steps to ensure the total elimination of Sexual Harassment (SH) in the OAU Community. The University said it has a legal duty to prevent sexual and gender-based harassment within the institution and ensure that both men and women are protected from this menace; and thereby provide conducive environment for teaching and learning.
